Integrative Osteopathy

Integrative Osteopathy South Canberra

For persistent and complex pain

Integrative Osteopathy offers a different way of looking at persistent pain.

This appointment is longer than a standard osteopathic consultation, giving you and Alison time to work together to understand why you are still experiencing pain.

You may have already had treatment from other healthcare providers that eased the pain for a short time, only for it to return days, weeks or months later. You may also have had scans, tests or other investigations that have shed little light on why you are experiencing these symptoms, or why they are still having such an impact on your life.

The appointment considers your physical presentation alongside the wider context in which the pain has developed or continued. That may include stress, significant life events, long-standing patterns and past experiences that could be influencing how your body is responding.

Hands-on osteopathic treatment remains part of the appointment, alongside approaches such as cranial osteopathy, gentle movement, soft tissue work, sound, tuning forks, OldPain2Go and more subtle body-based or energetic work where appropriate.

The aim is to understand more clearly what may be contributing to your pain and to work with that in a way that gives you the best opportunity for meaningful change.

Why this approach?

Alison brings more than 20 years of osteopathic experience alongside further training in persistent pain, clinical hypnotherapy, Havening, trauma-informed care and traumatic stress.

She has completed the Trauma Research Foundation’s Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies, a 75-hour program led by Dr Bessel van der Kolk and featuring internationally recognised specialists in trauma research and treatment.

Her interest in this area has grown through years of working with people whose physical symptoms may sit within a wider story of stress, trauma and life experience.

NEW TO THE CLINIC?

Please book an Initial Osteopathic Consultation first and let us know when booking that you are interested in Restorative Osteopathy. Your initial consultation will include the history and assessment needed for your osteopathic care and, where appropriate, may also include some of the gentler restorative approach.

If you are already a patient at the clinic, you can book Restorative Osteopathy directly. The appointment begins with a brief check-in before moving into a slower, quieter style of treatment.

If you are looking for Alison’s usual structural osteopathic treatment, please book a standard osteopathic consultation.

Although we’re incredibly well qualified and extensively trained professionals, you’ll notice we love a laugh as much as anyone.
